All about aftercare
Standard aftercare steps
Wash your hands before touching your tattoo
Remove your preferred protective bandage listed above, gently
Wash your tattoo with your hands, warm water, and fragrance-free anti-bacterial soap twice a day
Preferably Gold Dial Soap
Pat dry with a clean paper towel or allow to air dry
Apply a thin layer of your desired moisturizer when you feel is necessary, constant hydration is not recommended
Lubriderm, Aquaphor, Hustle Butter, or Mad Rabbit are all great options
Expect some itching, flaking, and peeling skin about five days into the healing process—this is normal If you chose second skin
If your new tattoo has been covered with second skin (a clear, breathable barrier) you can leave the bandage on for two to five days; depending on how much fluid builds up underneath.
When you feel it is time to remove the bandage, I recommend doing so slowly and gently under warm running water. Pulling the second skin off in the direction of hair growth, not straight up. Then, follow the standard aftercare steps above.
If you chose Soaker pads
If your new tattoo has been covered with soaker pads (absorbent, nonadherent pads), I recommend you leave these on twelve to twenty-four hours. Then, follow the standard aftercare steps above.
Avoid while healing
No scratching or picking, this will create “fallout” or patchiness in your tattoo
Instead moisturize or ice the area to help subside the itch
No soaking (baths, hot tubs, swimming pools, or ocean water) for at least two and half weeks
No direct sun exposure or tanning
No heavy sweating or gym (for large tattoos or sensitive areas, this creates a higher risk of infection)
Don’t re-bandage unless instructed
Contact if
You have any unusual irritation or suspect infection
pus, spreading redness, or excessive swelling
